Awards DayFile:Golden Award with a Blue Ribbon.svg - Wikimedia Commons

Each year at Gwin, we have hosted a day at the end of the year to recognize students for displaying outstanding character and achievement.  We are proud of all of our students for giving their best effort to tasks presented to them at school and this day is just one opportunity that we have to celebrate their special accomplishments.

If your child is receiving an award during our program this year, you will be contacted by his or her teacher in the coming week.

Enrollment & Kick-Off

May 18th 4-6pm

This year, our kindergarten teachers ask that you bring your rising kindergarteners to Gwin when you enroll them for the 2017-2018 school year.  The children will participate in games and activities in the kindergarten classrooms while the teachers take a few minutes to get to know them.  This is an informal period and you are welcome to simply arrive at a time that is convenient for you and we will be able to accommodate your child in the classroom then!

In order for your child’s enrollment and registration to be complete and for him/her to be on a class list, the custodial parent or legal guardian must provide the following items:

·         Original student’s birth certificate

·         Student’s Social Security card (voluntary)

·         State of Alabama Immunization Record (If student is attending a summer program, the original document must be brought in prior to the first day of school.)

·         Recorded warranty deed or lease agreement in the name of custodial parent or legal guardian (If residency is not in your name, you must complete necessary documentation at Hoover City Schools Student Services office)

·         Current utility (gas, water, power) bill or connect notice in the name of custodial parent or legal guardian.

·         If applicable, custody, divorce, adoption documentation (If no custody papers exist, you will need to complete the Absence of Custody Papers form, which is available in the front office of Gwin Elementary.

·         Government issued photo identification for custodial parent or legal guardian

Lost & Found

Please come and find any items that your children may have lost at school this year.  We have lots of coats, jackets, and lunchboxes that may belong to your child.

ALL items in the lost and found will be donated to charity on

Health Room Notes

Parents of Fifth graders,

The Alabama Department of Public Health requires all students entering sixth grade to have one tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccination if they are 11 years of age or older. Your child MUST have this vaccination in order to complete the registration process for Simmons Middle School.  If your child receives this vaccination before the end of the school year, please turn it in to Gwin Elementary.  If your child receives this vaccination over the summer, please return the blue card to Simmons Middle School. Schedule your appointment now to avoid any delays in the registration process.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me at 439-2630.

As we approach the end of the school year, we need to think about the medications that have been sent to school for your child.  Medications are not held in the Health Room from one school year to the next.  Students are not allowed to carry their own medications home per the policy by the State Department of Education.  Therefore, an adult will need to pick up your child’s medication by noon on May 26, 2017.  Any medication that is left in the Health Room will be discarded after that time.
